SLCC Volleyball Announces 2009 Incoming Class

The Salt Lake CC women’s volleyball team announces their 2009 incoming class of players.  The talented freshmen class includes Shelbi Zaldain (Reno, NV), Sheila Uluave (St, George, UT), Ame White (Murray, UT) and Anna Burgess (Alpine, UT)  also joining the team are two transfers Naomi Flinders (Provo, UT) and Melissa Fifita (Midvale, UT).

Shelbi Zaldain, a 6’0 outside hitter, hails from Reno, Nevada where she was the 2007 Player of the Year in Northern Nevada.  Zaldain was a four time 1st team High Desert All-League player.

Sheila Uluave, a 5’10” outside hitter, attended Dixie High School in St. George, Utah were she averaged 13 kills per match and was named 4A 1st team All-State.

Ame White, a 5’9” outside hitter, was named 1st team All-State and led her team defensively along with her 16 kills per match.

Anna Burgess, a 5’8” Libero was named the 2008 Salt Lake Tribune 5A MVP and Desert 1st team All-State Defensive Player.  Burgess helped lead Lone Peak High School to the 2008 State Championship and was named 2008 State Tournament MVP.

Naomi Flinders, a 5’9” setter, transfers from Western Nebraska CC.  Flinders graduated from Provo High School where she was named Provo High Miss Hustle three years in a row and was named All-Region 1st team in 2007.

Melissa Fifita, a 6’0 outside hitter, transfers from Utah Valley University.  Fifita attended Cottonwood High School and was named the 2007 Salt Lake Tribune 5A MVP along with being named 1st team All-State and All-Region. 

The 2008 team finished with a record of 35-10, SWAC Champions, District A Champions and a 9th place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament.
