National Championship


First National Championship In School History!

The Salt Lake Community College Bruins defeated Midland College by a score of 67-60 for the school’s first ever National Title! The Bruins went on a 33-11 run in the last twelve minutes of the game to erase a 15 point drought of 49-34 with 12:37 left. "We cranked up the defense in the last eight minutes to put a bit of pressure on Midland," said Head Coach Norm Parrish. "It was a great team effort and everyone stepped up big time."
Leading the way for the Bruins was sophomores Nate Bendall, Rick Shoff and Logan Magnusson and freshman DJ Wright. Bendall finished the night with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Bendall had 14 of his 21 points in the second half. Shoff played an outstanding game and he ended with 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and Magnusson had 14 points and 3 rebounds. Wright scored a total of 96 points for the entire tournament and finished the game with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
Wright was named the NJCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player and Bendall was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
