Athletes Social

Today was the annual Athletes Social filled with fun and lots of important stuff. The day started out on the patio with some ice breakers and impromptu singing and dancing. It was a great way for the athletes to get to know one another. The rest of the day was filled with important information that every athlete needs to know (even thought they don't want to hear it)

Check out some fun pictures

Volleyball #5

This last weekend we had our first tournament in Idaho Falls! It was so good to finally get to play teams other than our own. We had to be at the school at 8 a.m. on Friday morning to make the 3 hour drive up to CSI.

We played two matches Friday night against CNCC and Northwestern. We won both matches! After the matches we went to Cafe Rio for dinner.. so good!

Saturday we also played two matches. Our first match was against Northern Idaho, unfortunately we didn't play as well as we did on Friday night, and we lost. :-( But we came back fired up to beat our rival, CSI. The match was very intense and our team came together and played as one. We went into five games against them, and ended up winning the fifth game 11 to 15!!! It was so much fun to beat CSI on their home court!!!!

We have had a great first tournament and I am excited to see what the future holds for us!!!!

Volleyball #3

Practice this week has been a lot tougher but so much more fun!  We’ve been playing a lot of six on six games and with how many good players we have, it gets pretty intense.  We still have tons of work to do though.  We had a lot of running punishments at yesterday’s practice for not meeting our goals.  Anyway, we have a weekend break from volleyball so we’ll be good on energy next week.  We’re going to need it because school starts on Wednesday and we also have our first tournament next weekend at CSI.  So, instead of practicing today, we’re going tubing down the Provo river!  I’m way excited.  It’ll be fun and it’s supposed to be 100 degrees today so maybe I can get the tan I’ve never had!  haha

Volleyball Blog #2

It's early morning, the sun is barely rising over the mountains, thirteen individuals walk into the gym. These individuals are soon to create one team, the 2009 SLCC Volleyball team. From Columbia, to Nevada and back to Utah, we are all here to do one thing. Play volleyball.
We are making it through our first week of practice. Bonds are being formed, and a sense of comfort is settling in. The coaches are doing a fabulous job, and are finding ways to help us come together. When an obstacle is placed before us, we all work together to solve it, taking in each idea. Working together is a key and we are learning what works for us. We are bending, stretching, lifting, hitting, and working hard. We are Bruin Volleyball!

Volleyball Blog #1

Hey hey! This is Whitney, but my nickname is Nini, call me what you like. I'm a sophomore on the volleyball team this year. We are in our second week of 2 a days and we fortunately have a little break from practice and are up in snowbird for a team leadership conference. So far it has been really fun! We were all split into groups and had a nice long bus ride up the windy roads up the canyon until we finally got to our hotel. We went with each of our groups and road the tram 11,000 feet up the mountain. Me, being afraid of heights, was kind of freaking out! When we finally got to the top, we had to hike down the mountain and stop at different stations for various activities. It took about 3-4 hours to get all the way down the mountain.

When we were back to our hotel, we had a few minutes to rest then it was off to dinner. Which was easily the most entertaining dinner i've ever had. They had 4 microphones set up on a stage so while we were waiting for our dinner, Me, Ame, and Shelbi got up to be background dancers for our other teammate LaKell while she sang Hero by Mariah Carey. After we got our meal and we were finished eating our table, which consisted of our team and 2 softball and basketball girls got up and played a dancing game called Little Sally Walker. It was super funny! In the game you strut your stuff and dance around!! I'm pretty positive everyone thought we were crazy, but it was extremely fun!! We even got 2 guys to join!! After our extreme dance off we needed to go cool down in the pool and hot tubs on the roof. There were new friends and intense chicken fights, but our party got cut short due to lightning

Our team gets along extremely well!! ESPECIALLY for it only being the second week. I love all the new freshmen that have come in, the transfers, and all the returners!! We all have such good chemistry, this trip has allowed us to all be insanely crazy and dumb together. I'm looking forward to this season and what our team can accomplish.
